Test Lead Design

The mixer test lead is specially designed for making measurements in internal combustion engines and allows you to work comfortably with in-line, V-shaped and opposing engines. A soft microphone cable with a dense braided shield is used as a cord. 4 mm "Banana" plugs are used as test lead connectors; BNC is a sensor-oscilloscope connector.

The replacement leads are made of a flexible PVC cable. A flexible lead pin is ideal for connecting an oscilloscope to automotive connectors as well as other recessed areas. A thin pin and a handy holder allow connecting to virtually any connector without damaging the circuit and wiring insulation, which enables to reduce the circuit rust. The spring prevents the pin from accidental breakage.

With the help of a standard 4 mm Banana plug you can easily connect/disconnect/change test leads. This plug is compatible with test leads from other manufacturers as well as multimeters. If needed, the test lead pin can be replaced by an alligator clip or a plunger mini hook.

Using 6 test leads allows you to make measurements on 6 ignition coils or injectors at a time, and therefore you can analyze the signals directly from all the cylinders of the engine. The pulses of ignition coil control as well as the injector control pulses from different cylinders never occur at the same time, which allows summing signals from all the test leads in order to get one signal at the output with a series of sequential pulses identifying the ignition system as a whole.

NB! The test lead doesn’t have a separate grounding terminal; therefore, an additional grounding wire of the oscilloscope is required.

When designing the test lead, high emphasis has been placed on a signal cables joint as this junction is damage-prone. Each of these joints includes a circuit board with the test lead’s electronic components. The board not only supports the loads, but also fixes the cable. Such solid joints prevent cable breakdown and increase its durability.

The test lead is compatible with the MT Pro oscilloscope as well as any other oscilloscope. It can be connected to any analog channel.
